Children and Adolescents Therapy
We want our children to succeed; to perform at their best. I provide psychological performance training to help improve physical performance (i.e., sports, music, drama, dance, etc) and reduce psychological obstacles. By the time parents begin investigating treatment options, they are already feeling frustrated with or distressed about their child, and often a bit undermined in their ability to parent effectively. In my practice, therapy with children can and should be an empowering, positive experience for parents; allowing them to learn new and more adaptive ways to relate to their child. I view parents as experts on their children and feel that their knowledge, love, and supportive concern for their child are crucial elements to successful treatment.
Motivational Interviewing is a technique that Dr. de la Luz utilizes when adolescents become stuck or closed off from attempts to reach them. For example, adolescents with Oppositional Defiant Disorder(e.g. child who frequently argues with adults, often loses temper, blames others), often respond to therapy utilizing this type of approach.
